Wolaita Sodo Agricultural Vocational Education and Training (WSAVET) College, located in Wolaita Zone, Southern Ethiopia Region, has a distinguished history of establishment and growth. Initially founded in 1972 by the Wolaita Agricultural Development Unit (WADU) as a training center, the institution was officially upgraded to a college in 1994 as one of the 25 TVET colleges in Ethiopia. With over two decades of experience, the college began admitting students in the 2001/2002 Ethiopian calendar, focusing on producing skilled middle-level professionals.

The college adopts an innovative learning approach, combining 30% theoretical instruction with 70% practical training to ensure a hands-on and industry-relevant education. Currently, it offers a range of programs tailored to diverse student needs, including regular, weekend, night, summer, and short-term training courses.

For the 2024/25 academic year, the college serves a vibrant community of over 5,000 students. Programs are delivered across six key departments: crop production, irrigation and drainage, natural resource management, cooperative accounting and auditing, animal production, and animal health. These programs are offered at Levels I to IV. Supporting this mission is a dedicated team of 280 administrative and support staff, alongside 132 academic professionals, ensuring high-quality education and services.

The college spans a total area of 72 hectares, with facilities that integrate academic learning with practical application. Its location, within the Wolaita Zone, is geographically diverse, featuring highland, midland, and lowland climatic zones. The mean annual rainfall ranges from 600 mm to 1400 mm, and the altitude varies from 1,200 to 2,800 meters above sea level. Wolaita Sodo Agricultural College is situated 330 km south of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, along the Shashamane-Hawassa-Arbaminch road.
