The Wolaita Sodo Agricultural Vocational Education and Training (WSAVET) College is one of the most established and experienced agricultural training institutions in Ethiopia. Its primary objective is to prepare highly qualified, dynamic, compassionate, and responsible mid-level agricultural professionals in various specializations, including crop production, animal production, animal health, natural resource management, irrigation and drainage, cooperative accounting, and auditing. The College employs over 130 academic staff, with more than 75% holding Master’s degrees, as well as over 270 administrative personnel.
We are committed to the success of all our academic and administrative staff, as well as our students, by creating opportunities for inclusion and collaboration that leverage our diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and aspirations. In this endeavor, we strive to promote cooperation. We support and encourage teaching, scholarship, and service that uncover contemporary challenges to these ideals and design innovative solutions to the agricultural challenges faced by our farmers, pastoralists, and industries in southern regional Ethiopia and beyond. Furthermore, we are dedicated to ensuring mutual respect for all members of our academic community, including the college’s administrative staff and students, and fostering an environment that promotes their well-being and enables their work toward improving society.
Our teaching-learning approach follows a 70/30 modality, with a strong emphasis on practical training (70%) and theoretical instruction (30%). Through this approach, the College has been working diligently to produce skilled and hardworking graduates who develop the required competencies and attitudes beyond the theoretical knowledge reflected in their class examination results. Engaging professionals from the local, national, and global market to contribute to the learning experience of our students achieve this.
The College is working very hard to support the country’s efforts to poverty-eradication, shifting from subsistence farming to a commercial farming system through the strong professionals it produces; problem-solving research that the staffs under the college are conducting and community services and technology transfer activities.
The College recognizes that this commitment presents challenges that are dynamic and that require innovative approaches to solve. We are dedicated to advancing agricultural research and extension, technology transfer works that deepen our understanding of the root causes and potential solutions for challenges in areas of Agriculture.
We are committed to developing a deeper understanding of the challenges that all our students face as we help them develop their abilities to think deeply about difficult problems so that they can become problem solvers dedicated to improving our societal Agricultural challenges. In that quest, we must continue to reflect on ourselves as well, on our programs, and on the human condition as we examine our current limitations and imagine a better tomorrow.
Our Vision is to be one of the top problem-solving Agricultural Vocational Education and Training Colleges in the country, which contributes to the sustainable Agricultural development of the country.
