✅ Background of College
The college, situated in Southern Ethiopia, has a rich history that dates back to its establishment in 1972 by the Wolaita Agricultural Development Unit (WADU). Originally founded as part of an initiative to enhance agricultural education, it officially became one of the 25 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges in 1994. Over the past two decades, the institution has evolved significantly, beginning to admit learners in the 2001/2002 Ethiopian calendar year and successfully producing a steady stream of middle-level experts in various fields.
The college employs a distinctive learning modality that prioritizes hands-on experience, with a curriculum structured around 30% theoretical instruction and 70% practical training. This approach ensures that students gain the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their respective industries. In line with its commitment to accessibility and flexibility, the college offers a range of programs, including regular, weekend, night, summer, and short-term training options, catering to the diverse needs of its student population.
As of the 2024/25 academic year, the college boasts a vibrant student body of over 5,000, reflecting its growing reputation as a center for vocational education. The institution offers a variety of departments, including Crop Production, Irrigation and Drainage, Natural Resource Management, Cooperative Accounting and Auditing, Animal Production, and Animal Health, spanning levels I to IV.
In support of its educational mission, the college is staffed by a dedicated team comprising 280 administrative and support personnel, alongside 132 academic staff members. This robust workforce plays a crucial role in fostering an environment conducive to learning and professional development, further solidifying the college’s position as a leading institution in Southern Ethiopia.
